Wellstar Health System will take over Augusta University's hospitals Wednesday, finalizing a nearly $800 million pact that dealmakers touted as a way to improve healthcare in Georgia and better train physicians for jobs around the state. A ceremonial signing Wednesday morning will cement the celebration, leaders of the University System of Georgia, Wellstar and Augusta University Health System told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a joint interview. Augusta University Health, which includes the Medical College of Georgia, will now be called Wellstar MCG Health.
