News DEKE COPENHAVER WFXG FOX54 (AUGUSTA, GA) - Former Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver has confirmed reports that he is currently fighting esophageal cancer. Copenhaver, who served for nearly ten years as mayor, is an Augusta native. As he receives treatment for the illness, he said to FOX54 that he is "very confident we're going to beat this thing." Copenhaver asked in a response to FOX54 that the "main thing" is "to get people to support the Unite in the Fight walk to benefit the Georgia Cancer Center.
